Morgan Hill Harley SUCKS ASS PART II

topic posted Sat, August 27, 2005 - 8:21 AM by  T-Bone
I have decided it's time to add another pony to my stable...looking at an '06 Ultra Classic. Yesterday I rode to House of Thunder to see what they had. Beautiful 06 2 tone black cherry/black '06 Ultra sitting in front of me. I literally stood there for 15 minutes going over every detail of the bike..looking at the sticker and what they were asking...NOT ONE sales person would talk to me...I pulled out my check book and started writing particulars down in it about the bike...still no love...so my old lady says "why is it no one will talk to us when we want to spend money" in a little than louder conversational voice...still nothing...in fact, the only person who asked me if I needed any help with ANYTING was the little hottie working in Motorclothes department...is this f&*king ridiculous or what?

So today I'm off to Penninsula, Fremont, Livermore, McGuires and maybe Green Valley or Santa Cruz to see if Harley would like to be so gracious as to take my f&%king money for a new bike....... I guess business is too good?

First, hi to everybody, I'm new to the group, and a new Harley owner.

My experience with them has been the opposite, really. I bought my 07 Road King there in fact.

I went there because I knew they were renting bikes, and wanted to try a road king before
to buy one. I was ready to pay, but after some talk with the sale guys, they lended me the
bike for free ... for one hour, I did not pay gas, or anything ... sweet.

Then, I knew I had to get a road king. I realized at that time that they were carrying the
less expensive models (the black ones, without options).

I went shopping around the peninsula, and did not see the model I wanted, or
even saw dealer markups in Oakland.
I went back to Morgan hill, bought a 07 vivid black FLHR. I wanted some accessories,
and when I went back to pickup the bike, they gave me 20% discount on the Siren and
    pager ( I was expecting 10%)

    Very nice guys overall.

    House of Thunder rocks!

I went in to HoT about 3 weeks ago wanting to look, possibly to buy if I found the right bike. No salesman pounced on me, but within a few minutes, one strolled up to talk. I've been a rider for 25 years, but have never owned a Harley. I was interested in either a Road King or Fat Boy and after he explained the key differences I'd decided that the Road King I was leaning towards anyways was what I wanted.

In 2 hours, I'd completed all the financing and paperwork. I drove home, picked up a friend, came back and an hour later after finalizing everything, I drove home on my 2007 Black Cherry Road King FLHR.

In the week that followed I noticed the left rear turn signal had burned out. There was also a ring on the edge of the front tire. I couldn't quite tell if something was stuck in the fender wearing on it or if some small dirt clog had briefly lived there to make the mark. I was accessory shopping anyways, so I headed down to HoT. They had some corporate guys there in a big truck doing demo rides and the place was busy. I had no problem getting help right away at the counter and the guy came out and looked at my bike while I explained what I wanted looked over. He asked to keep it 45 minutes.

I browsed new handlebars (god it needs a better reach) and a bunch of other stuff and about the time I had burned as much time as I could, they were done with the bike. Light fixed, nothing lodged in the fender and the squishy sound the front brakes were making are supposedly normal. They're still doing it at 600 miles. Never had any other bike make that noise, but a coworker that's never even owned a Harley said that's normal for new brakes...

Every person I talked to at HoT was very pleasant and eager to help. Maybe they're just extra happy because I just dropped 20 large plus on a bike, but even the chick working the helmet area went out of her way to show me different models and to try to find the right size for me and she had no idea I'd just spent a bundle.

I've gone in there 3 times total now and everytime has been a great experience. Whereas going to SJHarley is like entering a black hole. If I want help I guess I have to go ask for it.

I got exactly what I expected from House of Thunder, a pleasant home town level of service and attention without being pestered when I just wanted to look. Every single person I spoke to there was friendly and helpful.

I plan to go back there often. If things change, I'll go somewhere else, but to be honest, I'm surprised you've had poor experiences there, because mine have been anything but that.
  • That's what happens when you shop for a motor in a clothes store! Harley cares more about selling $50 T shirts to chicks with no bike than a $20K machine to a real biker. I've seen H-D dealers with more space for clothes than parts and repair combined, with "no room for a wash bay." Harleys are the latest way to say "I'm old and boring and foolish." Instead get a real bike from the Japs or Italians or Brits or Germans or Austrians, the selection of cruisers has never been better. Even the latest model H-D, the V-Star, er, I mean, V-Rod, is a water-cooled Jap bike knock-off. If you make the mistake of buying a H-D, just wait until you need H-D to honor your, er, "Warranty." Hahaha. A Harley Warranty is like the points on "Whose Line Is It Anyway:" they count for nothing. Which has its upside: the brain-dead chimps that work in a H-D dealer shop won't be able to get ahold of your bike and dick it up. Count your blessings, the idiots in that shop ignoring you were trying to save you years of grief. Thank them. They are true friends.

Well...thought I would resurrect this post as it has been a while and I just had another dealing with trying to buy a bike there last night.

As a side note..after the hassle of trying to buy another bike that this post was originally started for..I ended up buying a new Dodge 1500 truck instead. However I did go down to HOT with a friend who bought an '07 Street Glide about 6 months ago. I told the sales guy about my previous experience and he got very disgusted and said "You come see me next time you want to buy a bike and I WILL help you"...which leads to my story....

I changed up on what I was looking for and have decided I want an '07 Street Glide. So, with checkbook in hand (I have enough to buy it outright - which I intend to do) I moseyed on down to HOT last night...There was the same sales guy I had talked to who said he would help me when I was ready to look at bikes again...I walked up to him and we said our "Howdys" and I explained I was looking for an '07 Street Glide and noticed they only had 1 on the floor. I asked, "Looks like inventory is low..making room for the '08's??". He replied yeah have a bunch coming in...I explained I wasn't interested in an 08 and wanted an 07..so we walk over to the remaining Streetglide and start looking at it. I asked if they were willing to deal on getting it sold? He said yes...then started going through the additions they did of chrome front end, chrome controls (all of which I do not want anyway). I looked at the tag and started reading it to see all the extra add ons and charges they have on it (Wanted something ridiculous like $29K for it). So..as I grab the tag to look at it...Mr.Sales guy just walks away...I mean, come on...I have money in my pocket and want to deal...but he just friggin walked away.....so, thats what's meant by "I WILL help you"?? Nice!!! So I walked out of the store calmly without using expletives and drove off....I guess business is too good for them and they don't need to talk to anybody. I guess here's another dealer who will loose my business and I will not recommend for any reason...just amazing.
